A Quick Story About
Chattel Houses
in Barbados...
You may be wondering, why we chose the name "The Yellow Chattel House (TYCH)." Well, just as its name suggests, TYCH is inspired by the iconic chattel houses that dotted the landscape of Barbados as far back as 1834. These small, movable houses were a distinctive part of Bajan architecture. True to this tradition, our boutique store is modest in size, featuring moveable louvers that harken back to those early days.
The word "chattel" means a movable possession, and we hope that when you visit us at Haymans Market, you'll find a small treasure to take home with you—a keepsake that will remind you of your time spent on our beautiful island.
